Expressions of Pride

****Tuesday July 16 Figure drawing will be held at DRAW INC: 752 6th AVE, SLC UT. All other classes will be held at UMOCA


Join DRAW INC and UMOCA for a series of community art workshops exploring themes of identity, resilience, and healing. Each class will cover a specific medium and build on skills from the previous week, leading up to a final project of the participants choice. Students will have the opportunity to show their finished work at the DRAW INC gallery for the August gallery stroll. Live Figure Drawing/Painting


DRAW INC: 3pm – 6pm


752 6th AVE, SLC UT


Through this class, participants will deepen their understanding of the human figure through gestures and poses with a live model. The first half of the class will focus on techniques for figure drawing, and the second half will focus on painting techniques. Participants can choose to focus on one medium for the entire class, or switch between the two. Supplies provided. All levels welcome!

Kintsugi: Japanese method of repairing broken pottery


UMOCA: 4pm – 7pm


Participants will learn about the history of Kintsugi, the ancient Japanese method of repairing broken pottery with gold. This method celebrates the imperfections and breaks in an object rather than trying to hide or cover it up. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ceramic bowls/pieces for the project that are either already broken or ready to break for the class. Additional bowls will be provided for those that need them, and all other supplies will be provided.

The Identity Project: Self Portrait


UMOCA: 4pm – 7pm


What makes us human? How do we define ourselves? The Identity Project provides participants an opportunity to explore these questions through mixed media like writing, painting, drawing,and found materials. Participants are encouraged to bring an object from home that represents who they are to incorporate into their art piece. Supplies provided, all levels welcome!

The Identity Project: Community Portrait


UMOCA: 4pm – 7pm


The Identity Project continues as participants explore their role within the community, and what it means to collaborate, connect, and support individuals and groups. Participants will continue working on their self portraits and will also have the opportunity to create a group piece for the gallery show.
